The fastest laptop ever - thanks to Intel's Penryn chip

PC Pro has managed to get its hands on one of the first Intel 45nm Penryn-powered laptops and its verdict? “Fast.” The new ‘Penryn’ Core 2 Duo T9000-series processors are reckoned by Intel to give a "modest 5 to 12% improvement in performance" with no increase in power consumption. This is a result of its new 45nm manufacturing process that that allows more components to be crammed onto the chip without increasing its 35 watt TDP (Thermal Design Power).

The laptop – an Asus M50SV-AS030G – has a 2.5GHz Core 2 Duo T9300 chip with a 15.4in (1280 x 800) screen, 4Gb of RAM and a 250Gb hard drive. It’s the fastest laptop PC Pro has ever tested and it’s even 32% quicker than a desktop PC with a 3GHz Pentium D processor. And all for £1,149 inc VAT.
